What a glorious day for a Fifties Fair!
|Our dancing friends, Dan and Krys|
The sun was shining, there was barely a cloud in the sky, and wearing black taffeta might not have been a good idea but who cares. (apologies for the photo heavy post, I’ve put most on Flickr).
We were lucky and got there about half an hour before it opened – meaning a park nearby, not many people and more space to have a look at the market stalls.
This year was probably my favourite – Jakk and I won ‘Best Dressed Couple’!
I don’t like entering competitions like that, but Jakk looked so good I knew she’d win something and wouldn’t enter by herself. The prize was dinner at Portenos, a place we’ve wanted to go to for ages.
I’m sad that I don’t have any photos of us on stage, but I have plenty of the ladies entering ‘Best Dressed Woman’.
And the dancing…
|Bruce and Kat, and Tim and Squish – Swingtime Australia|
Dress – 1950’s Koldon shot taffeta, with besom pockets
Petticoat – vintage, Ebay
Shoes – Miss L Fire ‘Boardwalk’ (best ever shoes in my opinion)
Handbag – white cane with pastel accents, market find
Hat – Stetson Fifth Avenue, Etsy
Pearl Necklace – my nan’s
Brooch – Pink leaf, somewhere in New York
And what did I come away with? Last year was slim pickings in my opinion so this year really made up for it!
Vintage polished cotton fabrics both in dress lengths, and buttons….
And at long last – a Laminex kitchen table and chairs!
These are uncommon and expensive here in Australia, and we’ve been trying to get one (in our budget) for a few years now. There was no way we could get the table into our car (the seller wouldn’t deliver) and I nearly walked away – until Gus from RareAs Vintage saw our disappointment and offered to take it home for us in his van. What a hero!
I think it was a good price as it was filthy – nothing a little bicarb and water couldn’t fix.
And that was our weekend!
How was yours?
