Free vintage crochet pattern: 1940s Fantastic Frilled Hat

Hurrah for hats!!!
And hurrah for crocheting your own! This super cute hat pattern comes from F&K Hats, Bags and Mittens Volume 25, I’m thinking early 1940s?

It’s made from a worsted weight yarn, and crocheted on a 3.5mm hook (Bone Size 4).
I hope you like it!

That is super charming! I love the mix of cute + chic at work here. It would be fun to create a series of these hats, one for each season, in two colours (one for the front loops, another for the many body) that personified that time of the year.

Big hugs & happy start of autumn wishes,
    ♥ Jessica

Has anybody else tried to crochet this? It's just not making sense when finished. Wondering where I'm going wrong.
