Sydney Rock and Roll Markets – August 11

The weather was bright and sunny last Sunday, perfect for a spot of perusing and dancing at the Rock and Roll Markets.

RareAs Vintage

I always like the mix of ‘looks’ at the Markets – pure vintage, pinup, rockabilly/greaser, punk and everything in between. Its nice to see a lot of people dressed up in their favourite outfits.

RetroStation Vintage
The main reason we went along was to prowl through my favourite seller’s fabric stash (photos further down) and to have to have a dance. Sydney dancers are pretty lucky – we never have to wait long for a band or a rockabilly DJ to be playing somewhere!
Swingin’ Kitten and Limpin’ Jimmy – rockabilly teachers extraordinaire!

I only wish that I remembered to have outfit photos taken BEFORE dancing, so please excuse my red cheeks.

Jeans – Freddies 1940s Work Jeans
Shoes – Aris Allen saddle shoes
Bag – 1940s phone cord, Facebook swap
Jumper – handknitted, by me
Jacket – 49er, SnootieSeconds on Etsy
Brooch – 1940s novelty ice tongs, Etsy
And what did I come home with?
A massive 1950s barkcloth curtain (already gracing my bedroom) and four dress-sized pieces of 1940s rayons (all from RetroStation).
Night time photo, doesn’t show the amazing colours.
Be nice to your vintage dealers, and they’ll be nice to you!

Awesome!!! That looks like such an fabulous vintage filled blast! It drives me up the wall time and time again that events such as these are so exceedingly rare here in Canada, especially outside of the absolute largest cities. I guess I'll just have to visit them vicariously through great blog posts such as yours, dear gal.
