Curvy Pattern 6: Noreen jacket, c. 1930s

While larger size patterns from the 1930s are uncommon, they certainly did exist and were very stylish! Patons + Baldwins released a speciality knitting book (No. 103) in the late 1930s just for these larger lovelies.

Noreen is a stylish coat knitted in a firm stitch – so lovely with that button closure.
- To fit: 38 and 42″ busts
- Yarn: DK or 8ply
- Needles: 4.5mm

What an adorable jacket! It is just what I’ve been looking for! Onto the list it goes 🙂
Thank you so much for Curvy Month…I really love it!

I love that hat! Is there a pattern?

Ooh I think it’s a sewn felt one – unfortunately no pattern xx

Hi – has anyone actually made this jacket? I’ve done the front pieces and halfway through the back – and realizing that the back is written to be a lot longer than the fronts. I can’t tell from the pattern if that is intentional (it looks like it’s straight around) or if it should sew up right because it’s on meant to have some pleating (though it only mentions pleating at the top of the sleeves).
Any insights are MUCH appreciated! Thx

HI hon – pretty sure the back and front should be the same length? I would change the back length to be the same if it’s coming out longer…

Hi there. Trying to follow this pattern to the letter but its going all wrong. I’ve cast on the 46 stitches for the right panel, doing the start and finish each row with a knit stitch and alternating the knit 2, purl 2 then purl 2, kit 2 in next row as per instructed but its coming out in part ribbing and then the rest in moss stitch. Can someone please tell me where I’m going wrong and how to change it. Thank you in advance.
