Finished: Hawaiian Summer outfit
With Viva Las Vegas coming up soon in September it’s time to make an outfit – not that we’re able to attend due to Australia’s restrictions.
I LOVE vintage Hawaiian dresses – but I actually don’t like low cut dresses. I wanted something that was light and fun, but also something with a bit more coverage.

I’ve had this gorgeous tropical border print rayo in my stash for 4 years, it’s a Tori Richards fabric that I had gotten from Fabric Mart (I think I used about 4.5m).
The fabric gave me an excellent excuse to use McCall 6747 (c. 1946) – a fabulous wrap skirt pattern with a hip swag.

It came out wonderfully, and I can’t wait to make some more in a plain colour.

This is actually a two-piece set – the blouse is made from Simplicity 8244. I’ve done a few posts on this pattern before, if you want to have a read of the mods for fit please check them out.
For this blouse, I cut the dress on a fold to make a V-front blouse, and shortened it to just after the darts.

Skirt Mods:
- Added 4 inches to waist side, and 8 inches to hips at side seam
- Repositioned the darts
- Removed the back side seams by laying the side back and back together (and introducing a dart to the top)
- Added 1.5 inches to the length
- .75″ sway back adjustment (and added that length back to hem at centre back)

Overall
Really happy with how this outfit turned out. The rayon is buttery soft, and the wrap skirt fits really well. I’m not normally a wrap skirt fan, but this one has plenty of coverage.
I also have enough fabric left over to make a different blouse to match the skirt, so I might make something else!
Skirt pattern now available for download!
After so much feedback on Instagram, I’ve just added this skirt pattern to my store here! It’s available to download in large A0 format (for copyshop printing) or as an A4-Letter size for print at home.
