Does anyone else have the perfect pattern, that looks fantastic no matter how many times you make it?

Marian Martin 9014 is definitely that vintage pattern for me – I’ve made it three times and they all look fantastic (not to mention comfortable. I was inspired to make a navy and red one after Jakk got me this fabulous 1940s style belt from Working Dogs and Sons!

I really love the effect the bound buttonholes give on the bust (worth the effort!) and rayon twill means it’s perfect for our Sydney weather.

You can see the original pattern sleeve suggests only contrast sleeves, buttons and belt – but I love the contrast pocket effect too.

For modifications, I only just added a little width, and shortened the waist for my version. It fits really well right out of the packet.

I do have to mention – shoulder pads are a MUST for this dress. The sleeves feel weird and don’t hang right – I use Classic Tailored from Tessuti, they’re nice and thick but not too thick.

I always get asked about this pattern on my Instagram – so it’s been fully digitised and is available right here in my store if you’re keen 🙂

I hope you have a fantastic start to 2024!
