FO: 1950s Cowboy Jumper (Sweater) plus free cowboy chart!

I’m a huge fan of those 1950s novelty knits and western wear – but a lot of a time the most interesting patterns are sized for children (sad face).

Although Mary Maxim and Knit O Graf both released western designs, my heart was drawn to Knit O Graf one below and I knew I needed to make it for an adult.

My version is knit in 8ply (as opposed to fingering weight yarn) and is sized for a 40″ bust. I used a local yarn, Morris and Sons Estate, as it came it all the colours I wanted.

The process I use for re-working these vintage patterns is to start with my gauge/tension sqaure of the desired yarn. Then I make a knitters graph paper (at 100% scale) and draw the entire design out to scale.

Get a copy of the cowboy (bronco) chart here for free! It measures 11.5″ (29cm) square when knit in 8ply – and I hope I get to see heaps of cowboy jumpers out there! This chart is my own work, despite being heavily inspired by the Knit O Graf version. It cannot be used commercially.
