marriners 162 vintage knitting patterns 1950s

Finished: 1950s Marriners No. 162 in brown and chartreuse

My word, I just realised I forgot to post about my Marriners 162 jumper! It’s actually an early Curvy Month pattern I posted back in 2012 and had sat in my queue to make for 8 years! Oops.

This took me a couple of goes to get right – my gauge was off twice! In the end I settled for knitting it at a tighter gauge and just cast on extra 6 stitches front and back. I merged the extra stitches into the fair isle chart by just extending the white stems of the flowers (it’s hard to explain – if you knit this you’ll understand what I mean).

The yarn I used was Knitpicks Stroll, in Fedora Brown for the body and Morris Estate 4ply in Limelight for the chartreuse.

Overall I’m really pleased with it!

I wish I had remembered to take a photo from the back, I’m chuffed with how I inserted the zipper too – perfect the first time.

I’m not sure I would knit this again (once is enough) but I do love how it turned out.

Looks fabulous! I will hvave to go back and look for that pattern. I have never inserted a zipper into a knit before – time to try something new!
