Subversive Femme

Phyllis Bedjacket, circa 1950s

My apologies for the absence, the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras is about to kick off so life is a bit hectic at the moment!

I have been sewing my little heart out too, I’m onto my second muslin trying to get this 1940’s playsuit to look flattering (Anne Adams 4893). I really love the diagonal seams and front button placket.

Let’s just say, it still has a long way to go, and looks nothing like the pattern at the moment (I think they took quite a bit of artistic liberty with the drawing).
Hopefully I’ll be able to make it work, and show you soon – or it may end up in the ‘give-up’ pile.

In the meantime, here’s a really cute 1950’s bed jacket pattern from Patons No.428 that I hope you’ll like. While it says it’s for a 32-34 inch bust, the amount of ease means it could easily fit a 36 inch.
It’s knit using fingering weight yarn on 5mm, 4mm and 3.25mm needles.

Love the playsuit. So clever for our climate – you could wear the skirt over it for work then strip off at the beach on the way home!
    Hope you're enjoying the festivities

That bed jacket is too cute! I haven't knit anything in a good long while, but perhaps I will add that to the to-make list…
